GLOBAL BIOENERGIES: TÜV GIVES CLEARANCE TO START OPERATIONS IN THE LEUNA DEMO PLANT

TÜV gives clearance to start operations in the Leuna Demo Plant

Evry (France) and Leuna (Germany), 5 December, 2016 - Global Bioenergies announces having received the official permit to commence operations at the Leuna Demo Plant from TÜV, the main state certification agency in Germany.

Global Bioenergies announces having received the official permit to commence operations at the Leuna Demo Plant from TÜV, the main state certification agency in Germany. This clearance was obtained for the fermentation area after a complete audit, specially focused towards safety and environmental issues.

Ales Bulc, CEO of Global Bioenergies' German subsidiary, states: "Obtaining clearance to commence the plant start-up is a great milestone for the company. We recently transferred the technology from the pilot plant in Pomacle, France, and a first fermentation run is starting this week."

A team of 12 operators was recently recruited and trained by the Fraunhofer Institute, who is in charge of operating the Demo Plant on a 24/7 basis.

Rick Bockrath, Global Bioenergies' VP for Chemical Engineering, adds: "The Demo plant will now start its activities sequentially: we should be able to produce fermentative isobutene, which will be flared, in the next weeks. We expect to start the purification unit and the filling station in Q1 2017. Ton-scale shipments of isobutene batches should then start shortly."

Marc Delcourt, CEO of Global Bioenergies, concludes: "We expect the process to approach commercial performances by the end of 2017. It will then be ready for industrial deployment."

About GLOBAL BIOENERGIES

Global Bioenergies is one of the few companies worldwide, and the only one in Europe, that is developing a process to convert renewable resources into hydrocarbons through fermentation. The Company initially focused its efforts on the production of isobutene, one of the most important petrochemical building blocks that can be converted into fuels, plastics, organic glass and elastomers. Global Bioenergies continues to improve the performances of its process, operates its industrial pilot, has completed the construction of its demo plant in Germany, and prepares the first full-scale plant through a Joint-Venture with Cristal Union, named IBN-One. The company also replicated its achievement to propylene and butadiene, two members of the gaseous olefins family, key molecules at the heart of petrochemical industry. Global Bioenergies is listed on Alternext, Euronext Paris (FR0011052257 - ALGBE).
